Boo! Its Halloween! We Have Selfoweenies!

The last day of October! That means a few things.

First its Sunday, first day of the week and time for our peeps to leave us for a bit as it is time for Church.

Second, it is Halloween. We do not actually take part in this 'festival', but we do dress up our pups (and our kitties in the past), just for some fun...and then we just go about our regular business...we do not do trick or treating, and living outside of town, there are only a few tiny peeps indulging in that activity here, sometimes we don't see any at all. The direct neighbors with children know of our stance on this, so they don't ring our bell...we think this so called holiday is not in keeping with the way we practice our religious beliefs, (and no we are NOT Jehovah Witness, who celebrate nothing...), we are ordinary protestants with Calvinistic views of life.

Anyways, October 31 is also Reformation Day, commemorating when Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the doors of the church in Wittenburg, Germany. The year he did that was 1517. So therefore we celebrate this event with special church services each year. Wow, over 500 years ago!

OK, enough of that stuff...

Petcretary and our yard continue to get pummeled with bazillions of those awful walnut balls. We had a storm on the night of the 24th - 25th, and  along with large limbs falling off the catalpa tree, and smaller ones off the walnut tree, those dang walnuts were coming down like the worst hailstorm ever. The load when she cleaned them up was 3, almost four garden-carts full. YUCK! (She has actually lost count of how many garden-cart-loads she has brought to the big wood pile in the far back of our yard, maybe 2 dozen!) Dalton, being of small stature could almost disappear in that one pile...sheesh! We had almost 4 inches of rain along with all of that...Friday there were 2 shopping bags full...wow, we have never ever had that many in one season...and there are still lots more hanging waiting to crash down...even after two nights of frostiness. We sure need to rid ourselves of this menace...sorry squirrels, you will have to stick with the acorns and walnuts in our backwoods...LOL! (And there are plenty there too, but we don't bother cleaning them up...LOL!)

The 'Guilty Tree'!

The ugly walnut harvest

More walnuts, UGH!

The other night when *she* was cleaning up all those walnuts, it was around dusk, and suddenly there were three deer, in the field across the street...and then they ran into the road to cross it, but of course they never look to see if its safe...this time no vehicles came by, but we have seen deer get hit right where they ran over the road. Us pups had fun barking them till they were out of sight in the brush next door. That WAS exciting for a few moments!

Yup, I had to wear that witchy hat, too...

                 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This past Tuesday at Teddy's Teaser-Ween, petcretary got in the door first with one other, and she got the right answer, too, only she wasn't first...BOL!  She got this badge for being first in the door:
 And this one for being right, but not first:
There was also a costume contest at the same time. We pups added last week's 'ussie' into that contest...well, we were not the winners, but it still was lots of fun to see everyone else wearing their fun or spooky costumes.We got a badge for that too:
Maybe we should have entered the costumes we are wearing for our selfies this week...but she hadn't taken the pictures by then...tee-hee!
I prefer this clown hat, BOL!
This witch hat at least has no green hair, BOL!
Here is a cute joke for Halloween:
Why did the skeleton not want to visit the haunted house or cemetery??  Because he had no guts!! LOL!
  1. We celebrate Halloween very little only in the shops you see some decorations. But each year it is a little more. Rosie would kill me if I would try to put something on her or run away and hide !
  2. Your walnut tree is like our copper beech tree - too much of a good thing but our copper beech nuts won't kill you if one hits on on the head as it falls from the tree! What great costumes!
  5. Those are great costumes Do you not eat any of the walnuts? I have them for breakfast every morning with fresh fruit as they are supposed to be good for bowel cancer. To be truthful I am so fed up with eating them but hopefully they are helping.
    1. They are always full of worms, even the ones still on the tree...YUCK! The squirrels love them, though, LOL!
    2. They are. Black walnuts aren't edible by we humans. And yes, full of worms.
  6. You two are so cute in your Halloween outfits. That sure is a huge tree with lots of nuts on them. We can see why you would want to get rid of it.
  8. You guys look terrific! We LOVE your costumes all dressed up! Us here will NOT let Mom put costumes on us...Cinnamon will wear her pumpkin costume -- and she wore it on her walk this morning. She can't wait to wear it on tonight's walk! She will get some treats from the Ms and the Ss and is looking forward to that. We are arguing about which movies we will watch during our movie night, Kozmo and I want to watch some action and Jo Jo and Cinnamon want romance movies. Wow! Your walnut tree does make a mess! Mom says she would take it down too! We hope you guys have a marvellously happy week!
  10. That walnut tree is a pain in the rear - right. It needs to go and be replaced by a nice one.
    You two look so cute!! Happy Halloween (no we don't celebrate it here, its too commercial here not like the US where people have lots of fun).
  11. I'm only into Halloween for the dress up. My human is the opposite of religious, but she doesn't give out candy either. The kids get on her nerves, MOL! Plus candy is unhealthy, especially the cheap stuff that everybody gives out. So she goes dark on Halloween.
  12. We adore your Halloween pictures. You all look so cute. We only had a couple of kids here. We had terribly wet weather too.
  13. My pawrents feel de same as yours about Howloween, 'specially when it comes on church day. But dey would gib out candy if li'l kiddies came asking. Dat hasn't happened fur ten or a hunnert years or somefing. De pawrents drive de kiddies out to de suburbs fur get more candy! Here in de city, Howloween seems to be more fur grown-ups dan kiddies.
  16. Have to tell you...you all look REALLY good in both the clown hat and the witches hat! And my mommy hasn't paid any attention to halloween except to cave to her used-to-be-small kidlets who wanted to go knocking on doors for candy. Soon as they were old enough not to fuss too much, she didn't take them any more. Same reasons as you. AND she always wanted to help eat the candy. And did. Think I mentioned our black walnut tree. The nuts came crashing down right onto the house. Made you sit straight up in bed at night! LOUD! And, as an added attraction you'd go rolling on them if you weren't careful while in the yard. Turned out the tree was rotten. It was right against the house ,and mom had it cut down. The cutters had her come out to see the rotten trunk. Whew!
    1. They are like walking on a carpet of ball bearings...and woe if you fall on them...lots of hard things under your butt, and it turns all black, and almost impossible to get out of yiour clothes...YUCK!
  17. Mouses you've got a lot of walnuts there. Walnuts, we do not have; but acorns? We'd probably be buried in THEM if it weren't for the squirrels taking 'em and hiding 'em away.
    Well the squirrels take SOME of the acorns away. Quite a few, they pelt at the peep.
    MOUSES!
    We had buckets of rain on Halloween. It did not stop some kids though. We never get any as we live on a
    small,unlit road and there is a trailer park not too far down the highway ;)
    I did not go outside...too wet :/
    1. A roadside stand for all the local squirrels! Now that would make for a funny picture! Maybe I should do some art:)
      Those yucky globes are too wormy to be humanly edible, alas, because black walnuts are pricey, if you can even find them in the store.
      We love the weekly selfie blog hop! Thanks for hosting so faithfully, all these years, already!
    1. If they were not so worm filled that might be an option...but alas, I do not 'treat' the tree and its 'fruits' so worms there are, way more even than the walnuts themselves, LOL! The squirrels get extra protein that way! Hah!
  23. You pups sure look cute in your costumes! We didn't do anything for Halloween either. I had to work through it all.
    Wow! That's a LOT of walnuts! I bet the squirrels were happy about it. But I wouldn't want to have to clean up that mess either. We've been getting some heavy rainfall days too. It seems we get a couple rainy days every week. I hope this trend doesn't keep up all winter when the rain becomes snow!
