Sunday 'Seussian' Selfies

Yes, we know, we know, its not even March and we are woofing about Dr Seuss Day?? Well, petcretary is a busy lady so we want to give her a wee bit of a break so that she won't have to help us on March 2...aren't we a pair of thoughtfur hooligans?? BOL!

So here we are sporting our Dr Seuss Hat from the Cat  in the Hat, which he is very famous for! It even got to be a movie, how cool is that?!

This is Winter-Kitty, representing all the former kitties of this home; the original first two got to hear a lot of the Dr Seuss stories when the unfurs were very 'wee'!

We are the Hooligans; One and Two
How do you do?
We would love to play with you;
Yes. That is very true.
Thing One likes a good shoe;
Thing Two loves his bed, so blue…
Won’t you please join our crew?
All the toys we will review…
It will be fun for us and you!

Go to Comedy-Plus.com on March 2, to join the fun!

This past Tuesday the 23rd, petcretary once again was a 'firstie' at Teddy's Tuesday Teaser-blog-post.

She got this Badge, as did the other three firsties

But alas she wasn't first with her answer of where the place was...in fact she even forgot all about it, because she had so much other not blogging things to do...yup...oh well, she might have another go at it this coming Tuesday...hey, maybe it will be a picture of somewhere where Dr Seuss lived, since that is Dr Seuss Day as well!! LOL!

Many of you know The Tabbies O Trout Towne; well, Their Food Service Girl, is spending lots of time with her Mom, who had a bad fall with injuries. You can read about it *here*.

Please pay a visit at that POTP page and let her know you are wishing her and her Mom best wishes for a good recovery.

That's why she couldn't put up her weekly post on the 24th.

And thank you for all the good thoughts, kind words and sympathy for our peeps, the pawrents, when Pawppy lost his brother.

We are joined up to the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop; Thanks Kitties Blue for hosting this fun feature each week! We love you!!

Feathered Guest Selfies ~ Tabbies O Trout Towne Beware!!

Yup, we have some guests with feathers today, But of course you all want to see us doing our Mardi Gras which was this past Tuesday. And no, these are not the feathered guest selfies, BOL!

Petcretary was on the ball that Tuesday (Feb 16), as well, very early in the morning we might add...

She was one of four first commenters at Teddy's Tuesday Teaser Post...and not only that, she was also the first right guesser of where the picture had been taken.

So she got this special double winner badge:

This is the  picture she guessed, its from Ireland..oh to be in the green of a pretty spring right now, LOL!

This photo was taken in Ennistymon, County Clare, Ireland.

We also had quite a dump of snow from Monday night to Tuesday...about 8 inches total. Our pawrents shared the task of digging out, at least they did not have to go anywhere that day...the roads were a disaster and there were oodles of businesses and services closed, even vaccination clinics for Covid were delayed and the peeps with appointments having to come on another day.

We are happy that all the restrictions that were imposed upon Pawppy on account of his surgery have now been lifted and he is only restricted by his own need to stay safe...at any rate pawppy was able to use the snow thrower to help clear out the driveway. Petcretary cannot use it, its way too big and heavy for her.

Pawppy is using the snow thrower! It really does throw the snow!!

Then the temps went way way down...and one night we were  at -11F. Brrr! We were in the infamous Polar Vortex of 2021...which even traveled all the way down to Texas, (And other states not too well equipped for extreme cold...), and wreaked havoc on their whole infrastructure regards to power and gas and even the water supply! Yikes. So many with no power and no heat in the frigid temps...

We are pawyering for relief to be available for all those affected so adversely and may they soon be back to a nice and warm Texas.

Thanks, Ann, from Zoolatry

Speedy hasn't been feeling well, either, he has a very bad abscess on one of his paws. So we add our POTP for him also.

You can visit Speedy here, just click to go there.

**OK, Tabbies, Time to cover your eyes or leave...LOL!**

We had all kinds of birds at our feeders after all that snow and when the temps were so cold, including bluebirds, which we never see in the winter. So petcretary stood on a chair to take some pics through the window pane...

Tufted Titmouse

Junco

Nuthatch

Wren

Bluebirds

I am waiting my turn...

But that other bird is taking a long time...

And I am COLD! and HUNGRY!

I was a little too quick for the camera to 'catch' all of me...LOL!

I am all fluffed up to stay warmer...good thing there is lots of food here to help.

I want the warm spring to happen NOW!

Just in:

Pawppy just received some very sad news on Saturday...is dear elder brother passed away, at the age of 69.

He had been ailing for several years, and a few years ago was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. Such a horrible scourge. But a few months ago he was also diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer. Yet another awful disease.

We can fly to the moon, make all kinds of technology, but thus far we have no handle on some pretty serious and debilitating if not fatal diseases:(

So please just keep us close in your thoughts. We do not yet know of any arrangements, etc. He lived in Washington DC, where pawppy grew up.

We are in the Sunday Selfies, a weekly feature, hosted by our friends The Kitties Blue.

Happy Valentines' Day!! Happy Sunday Selfies Day!!

We turned our Ussie into a card for you!!

We hope you are all having a wonderful Valentine's Day. Its very cold here, with temps at night in the single digits, and in the teens or perhaps in the lower 20'sF during the day...So we all need the warmth of love in our hearts this Valentine's Day.

Its kind of bittersweet for our peeps as it was also the Gotcha Day of Angels Pipo & Minko....and its the first Feb 14th for them with no kitties to share the love with....so we hooligans will do our best to cheer them up and keep their hearts warm with lots of wiggly-waggly love! And licks!

Petcretary is working as well, so she will be very much too busy to think about these things....her and Pawppy will have their own 'celebration' on the 15th, instead....but we don't think us pups will be included....maybe a doggy bag or two??  They are going to be brave and try to get a reservation at an old train station, converted into a great restaurant! Our state only allows 25% capacity right now, so even on a quiet Monday it might be hard to get a table....but they'll try.

They both have now had the second 'shot' of the covid vaccine, and did not suffer from very strong side effects. Hooray, they have 'done their part'!

Here are a couple of flashbacks of Angels Pipo & Minko, ca2015.

Something not noticed before, their 'nest' looks very much heart shaped!! How sweet for this special day!

This was from an actual Valentine's Day 'photo-shoot'...

And now us hooligans are here with our selfies for Valentine's Day, 2021!

Last Tuesday the 9th, Petcretary was up early enough to be one of three first commenters at Teddy's Tuesday Teaser...you can be first if you get in there within the first minute when it goes live. Then you have to figure out/guess where the given image was taken...well, *she* had it right, but took a bit too long, and was not the first right guesser, LOL!

She got this Badge as her prize:

This day of love Selfie Sunday Blog Hop is hosted as always by The Kitties Blue. We love them for their dedication to this fun feature, and we lave them just because!!

Sunday Selfie Time ~ All About Me, Dalton

Today we are going to try to just have a Dalton selfie...as he is going to tell everyone a little bit about himself.

Miss Ellen from 15&Meowing had the first post we saw with that theme, so we copied the questions, and Dalton will add his own answers.

1.  My name is:Dalton
2.  My nickname: WigglyButt, Nutcase; Yoda; Piddly-Diddly;  Crazy-Pants; Cuckoo-Head
3.  My breed is: Mixed. Likely a rat terrier  and perhaps Dachshund or maybe Chihuahua...who knows!

I am a rescued pup from Texas...taken in as a stray during Hurricane Harvey, (Maybe that would be a good nickname, too??); rescued again out of that high kill shelter and brought by a caravan of  rescue trucks to Michigan,  and into a shelter that takes in only rescues. I stayed with that lady and her helpers (and many other doggies and cats), for a few weeks, till there was an adoption event at a local pet shop.
4.  My age is:4, I'll be five in August. The vet has me at 6, but the rescue group said I was one when I got to my forever home...maybe I am 6, I have a lot of grey on my schnooter. My birthday was assigned to me as the day I was rescued out of the hurricane, so that was the first day of the rest of my life. (August 20, 2016, though maybe its in 2014...)
5.My favorite human food: Anything they'll give me...which is hardly ever...I like bits of crunchy salad items the best, and CHEESE!!
6.  My biggest fear: Having to go back to that wet and flooded city in Texas...or to be in a home where there are no ladies. I am VERY fearful of men, even my own unfurbros and Pawppy.
7.  My favorite thing to do: Pester my doggy brofur Benji; romp with him, or play bitey face; I don't play too much with toys, though if Benji doesn't bother me, I might work at doing some good destuffing! Benji and I play tug of war sometimes, that is fun, and one of the few times I am actually playing. Chewing my nightly dental stick and later a regular Dingo stick.! I bark the neighbors all the time, esp if Benji alerted me to the need to bark, He-he! I love to try and catch the raiding squirrels, and I know that word, it gets me excited to go out and chase them away!
9.  Do I love car rides? Hmmm....nah, not so much, I whine and shake and worry about where we might be going.
10. Do I snore? Nope! (Not yet...)Though I dream a lot and make noises and whimpers sometimes.
11.Where do I sleep? In a nice firm bolster bed; or in a different 'nest' with Benji. Or on petcretary's chair, behind her as she works on the confuser. I will jump on her lap and then curl up behind her:)
12.  Who is my favorite human: Petcretary, everyone else is barked and snarled at...

I really have some issues...maybe after 101 or 887 years I might feel more secure with all my furmily members. Petcretary and Pawppy thought I was doing a bit better after my first year here, but then we had a home invasion and those two nasty men shouted and kicked at me. Then the police came in loud cars and stomped through our den looking for clues and stuff...and they had a huge German Shepherd...I had to go out in the snow (That was in late November), to mark all the pawprints and footprints of those intruders, even though later pawppy told me those were OK peeps. Sheesh, not to me:(

Since then I have had great fear of just about all men...and I have to be isolated in a different area of the den if there are people here to fix things, or when pawppy had peeps coming to the den after his surgery.

Right now Unfurbro-the-elder has been staying here since pawppy had his surgery in November. He will scritch me when I beg for it, by nudging his leg...but if he stretches or moves, I have to bark/growl him a warning...I don't like it either when he plays with Benji...not sure if I am jealous or just don't like the fact that *that* man is making a lot of movements and noise.

Petcretary has been able to teach me some very basic commands, such as sit, stay and come...but most anything that needs to be 'hands on' is hard to do, since she says I piddle when she touches me. I seem to best outside, and there it doesn't matter if I do a wee-wee! BOL!

Petcretary:

We have been using 5 mg of full spectrum CBD oil for about three weeks, now, but so far it hasn't seemed to make much difference. We have him wearing a thundershirt calming collar, and use a diffuser with doggy specific calming essential oils...and calming chew tabs as well...after ten days?? No changes...

He goes ballistic if my son is shoveling the walks and even if he moves around in the house. He hates hubby's cane, though its been around since August. He even has his hackles up and would bite if he could get close enough...he has bitten hubby and son (s) over the years he's been here, the last time was at Christmastime.

Sometimes he will bark and then run out into the backporch and stand there shaking and barking nonstop for 30-45 minutes. He is so deranged.

If I pick him up for almost any reason, he 'freezes'. Even when we are outside.

Dalton truly is a mystery when it comes to his fear issues. I may need to have the vet prescribe medication, though that for sure is not the way I want to go, but it may be the only way to help this poor messed up pup.

Maybe he need a session with the Dog Whisperer, or Victoria, the other famous dog behaviorist.

I love being outside, I am way less fearful in the big open space of our yard.

It was fun to destuff my big blue woofie, BOL!

Thinking and thinking some more...

Hey, yoiu need to cut the grass around here, BOL!

Dalton, my happy relaxed face selfie!

But when he's happy, he smiles!! Go figure! He dances and jumps like a pogo stick, and his little tail about wiggles right off! We all sure wish he could be that way more often. This mostly happens at meal and treat time, which is when we try to teach him some things. He can jump over my legs, go through them when they are up to make a 'tunnel' and he will also then jump into my lap to get the treat. But not for anyone else...go figure. Pawppy is the main foodbowl dispenser...but it seems that only matters at *that* moment...

Oh well, we love him and will not give up trying to help him become the pup he should truly be. He needs to learn to be happy and to have confidence and trust, at least of his own peeps.

------

Petcretary was one of three first commenters at Teddy's Tuesday Teaser. So this was her badge as a reward.

But while she got the right place she wasn't first...close but no cigar!! LOL!

Dalton is in the Sunday Selfies Blog hop! The Kitties Blue are the hosts and we love them all, and esp we love that they do this each and every week!

In Purrsuit Of Flavours ~ Sweets For My Sweet

This is a fun series of monthly posts for our yummy recipes, and The Canadian Cats, Shoko and Tyebe, and The Weimie Twins Phenny and Nellie host the event!

Oh, yes its February and that means its the month of love and Valentines...And what Valentine Sweetheart doesn't like a sweet treat now and then??!

So we asked for a good one that has no refined sugars and is Low Carb...ie: Keto Friendly.

We found one!

And its even got shades of red to please the Valentine spirits!

Warming Berry Pot  (aka  A crustless Cheesecake) (Keto friendly)

Ingredients:

2 large eggs, room temp.

8oz brick of cream cheese, Not 'lite'. Softened a bit.

1/2 cup sour cream, Not 'lite', room temp.

1/4 cup heavy whipping cream or coconut milk, full fat, room temp.

2 Tablespoons Swerve (Erythritol)

10-15 drops liquid Stevia

1  tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice, room temp.

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 cups fresh or frozen berries. We like  raspberries the best! (But they are all yummy)

Method:

Preheat oven to 325F

Wash fresh berries and dry them. A salad spinner works well. NO need to wash frozen berries.

Whisk everything together till well blended except the berries. Gently stir in the berries or else put the batter in a small casserole dish, or in 6 ramekins, greased. Then distribute the berries evenly on top of the batter.

Bake for about 20 minutes or so, may need longer. Its done when thew top is caramelized and the custard is set.

Eat warm...or cool. Yummy with more berries on top, or a berry sauce, or even whipped cream! Be indulgent and put all the toppings on! LOL!

Its a winner in our home!!

Here is another similar recipe...

Keto Raspberry Cheesecake

6 eggs

1 cup raspberries

2/3 cup coconut oil (melted)

1/2 cup cream cheese (room temp)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

4 tablespoons Stevia (granulated)*

(* this is a classic keto recipe, if you prefer a different sweetener substitute with pure maple syrup in equal amounts)
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F.

Line a tray with baking paper (about 8 by 8 inches).

In a large bowl, using a wooden spoon, mix the coconut oil and cream cheese well. Add the eggs, vanilla, baking powder and Stevia and beat with spoon until a runny batter forms – no lumps. Pour the batter into the tray. Scatter on the raspberries.

Bake for 25 mins. Allow to sit for 5 mins then cut into squares.

Enjoy hot or cold!
