Yes indeed, it is May, and that means full on spring! Petcretary;s favorite season. Though...we have had a frost warning, both Saturday morning, and again today after midnight. Brrr! She took several plants inside...but the perennials will just have to deal with it...though she did notice some frostbitten leaves on some of the shrubs, and the trumpet creeper.
Oh well, the cooler weather means less bugs for now, we will complain about that! Though a few days ago, Petcretary found a tick trying to make itself at home on her arm...so she'll watch for any signs of illness. She did save the tick for analysis, just in case...yucky little monsters!
Out in the wayback of our yard, there are still bazillions of weeds, now she's starting to try and get a handle on the cleavers...which is not a bad plant per se, but it is a nuisance! It STICKS to everything! And smothers everything as it spreads. It actually can be eaten, and used for various traditional remedies. BUT...it also makes seeds that stick to US, Blah...

Of course we also rule our yard...and Benji dug out three huge caverns in the back, he was so diligent in his efforts, the dirt was scattered about 10 feet from where the action was. So out came the cayenne pepper...its a great way to make digging in the same spot not fun...at least this project was at the base of a large pile of wood from petcretaryls lumberjacking efforts...
We got some treats after we ate our supper...(Shhh, don't tell them they are actually dental treats...)

ReplyDeleteBenji you better watch out. If you do that much digging work, someone might hire you out to work on a farm and dig lots of holes. We've had the frosty mornings too including today. I'm hoping today's Sunshine isn't fake like yesterday's. It disappeared way too fast. Precious started B12 2 days ago so we have our Paws crossed.

Hi hi hi! Ojo here! We have those sticky plants too! Not in our current Yard, but they were in the Old Yard, and also in the Forest! We also have those cory-whatever things! And we also have caverns, courtesy of Cyrus! We must be neighbours, friends! So how about being neighbourly and sharing some of those pawesome-looking chews?

All the rain you've received sure greened everything up. We have a freeze warning as well as a winter warning today. It's sprinkling now with a flake or two interspersed. the forecast is calling for Armageddon (anywhere from 3-9 inches-but we'll see).
ReplyDeleteP.S. Stay safe. I use an essential oil mixture to keep ticks away on both for me and Wilson. Effective essential oil tick repellents include cedarwood, lemon eucalyptus, geranium, and rose geranium, mixed with water and witch hazel for a natural spray. Studies show that clove, red thyme, and creeping thyme offer high repellency (up to 91% when combined with citronella). These oils are effective on skin, clothing, and gear. For dogs, a DIY dog flea and tick spray can be made by mixing 10–20 drops of dog-safe essential oils (such as cedarwood, lavender, or lemongrass) with 1 tablespoon of witch hazel or carrier oil (like almond/coconut oil) and 1–2 cups of water in a spray bottle. Shake well before applying and avoid the face, eyes, and mouth. Good luck!
I always say any day I don't have to turn on the A/C is a good day. You have many pretties growing where you are and what you call cleaver I always called sticky grass. I had no idea it could be folk medicine, I'll have to look it up.
