Petcretary Fenced In Her Annoyance

Petcretary Fenced In Her Annoyance, but maybe anger would be a better word...

Our neighbor was fed up with an old rotting lean to carport, at the side of his house. Former neighbours had put it up, with using fresh hewn lumber from tree he had cut down himself...and added used particle board he had gotten from who knows where...and a then a tar paper roof over more particle board. Of course in our Michigan climate something like that will for sure NOT stand the test of time. SO after several years of our now neighbours living there, he decided that it might fall on his vehicle or his wife or kids...so he took off the loosely attached/falling off siding, and pulled apart the walls, down to the support posts. Then he attached a comealong to one of the posts and then to his truck...and began to pull the rest of it down. Petcretary thought he thought it would come down flat, and in the direction he was pulling it...but NOPE! It collapsed and fell sideways right into our fence. NOOOOO!! One of the crossbars was bent, and pushed forward into our yard...and the fence fabric came off the crossbar, and some of the ties were popped off, yards into our own yard!  Not to mention wood bits also thrown far into our yard...We were in our house, and watched this all happen...and we were about to leave for Church, and he came to the door and apologized profusely...sure dude...but why didn't you stop pulling that thing when your wife signalled to you that it was going to fall the wrong way? Well, he said he would pay for the repair...when we came home from Church a few hours later, he had gotten most of the wood pieces off the fence...and piled everything up in the driveway. He says he is going to burn it up...sure and the wind will bring all the black mold and other horrors into our yard and house...Sure hope he moves it away from where it is right now, else our fence might melt from the heat. Anyways,  petcretary and Mr Neighbor were able to push the post mostly back in place, and by using ratchet cords, he and her were able to sort of attach the fabric back onto the crossbar. It looks 'jenky' but it will do, us dogs can't climb through or over it...So that took up two evenings of sweaty  work to get it all fixed...(And thankfully he did move all that woody junk further into his own yard before burning it...and we got the windows closed in time...but not before us pups had a bark-a-holic festival!)

Here you can see the carport before it really got rotten and moldy. (From 7-2023) All that siding facing our yard was coming off, the roof was sagging...blah!
Didn't have time to get a picture of all this mess ON the fence, but this is how he piled it up while we were gone out.
Here you can see how much the post, crossbar and chainlink fabric was damaged.
The post in the foreground is bent inwards...Dalton is investigating...and we do let the grass gow along the bottom, to help discourage digging...
So that is one reason why we didn't do a lot of visiting this past week, if you got a visit from us, consider yourself blessed! BOL!

Of course all of this led to a LOT of barking...so we had to be corralled in the house many times. On order are several privacy fence covers to occlude the views we have of the next door yards, and their dogs, two on one side and one on the other...all are big pups...which means another project for petcretary...hopefully it will help make life quieter and more peaceful around here *she* says! We say Boo because then we will get bored, and I, Benji, won't be able to play my through the fence games with Rose...maybe I will just do do more digging projects then, BOL!

Speaking of digging...petcretary marked a whole lot of baby oak trees the other day, and when she walked through the same areas the next day, a lot of the markers were knocked over. She thought maybe we had done that as we romp through the yard...but on closer looking, she saw that the baby trees had been dug out and they were now dead, and had no more leftover acorn attached to the stem. Bummer. Lousy tree rats at work, Phooey! The trees she didn't mark are still OK, (She marks then so as to not step on them, or mow them down if they are in the grass.) So those smartypants squirrels must somehow smell that I had been there and investigated...and then reclaimed the nuts they had buried last fall. They don't know or care that we are trying to restart the woods to its former state before the bad storms of 2025. Oh well, SOME of them will survive, we hope! At least they leave maple and mulberry seedlings alone, BOL!

Well, enough of all that bad stuff, here we are for this week's selfies!

All the Sunday Selfies are hosted by The Kitties Blue at The Cat On My Head...Thanks for hosting you all!!

  1. Three delightful selfies to sort of make up for all your woes. I do hope you get your new post and chain link fencing all paid for by the naughty neighbour! As to the squirrel/tree rats, hopefully they will leave the area and trouble someone else's young oaks instead.
Have a better and happier and blessed week.

  2. Probably not a very nice thing to say, but it's a shame you're too sweet dogs aren't what they call junkyard dogs, and they could have surged through the fence and gone after the man while he was standing there looking like an idiot over his mess. What I've done and of course it's only been one or two trees at a time. Is to put the tiny trees that are sprouting off the nuts into flower pots. Then I sink them into my flower garden and keep them in my Nursery so to speak until they're a couple of years old. Hope your new fence can provide a good barrier.

  4. What a bummer of an accident but at least the neighbor is willing to fix it and those are wonderful selfies, Benji and Dalton!

  5. Oh my goodness...what a cluster with the neighbor and the mess he made. So sorry. At our old house we use privacy fabric on the alley side. It only hide the view, and did nothing to minimize the barking since the dogs could always smell people and their pets as they walked down the alley. Sigh. Your Petcretary took some adorable selfies of you guys. Well done there!

  7. You two are as cute as ever! Sorry to hear about the problems the neighbor created. It's no fun when someone creates extra work you didn't expect to have to clean up for them.

  8. Handsome fellas!
Bummer about the fence, and I'd have made the owners take that thing down before I'd have closed on the house!
We have a few good sized oaks seedlings that the squirrels have planted, and I don't know what to do with them.
Each are a couple, three years old, and are growing under our huge evergreen, and the rest of the yard is filled with old maples.
If you'd like them, I'll dig 'em up and we can meet in the middle; not sure where you are in Michigan.

    1. Thanks...but I have hundreds, I was just grumbling about the newer ones lost... When I get the time, I will dig them up, pot them and let them grow that way until they are bigger then I will plant them in the yard where they can hopefully flourish.

  10. That stinks, especially that petcretary had to waste her time and energy helping to fix it. The man and his wife should have fixed it. Nice selfies from you two cuties. XO

  12. Wowzers! Your neighbour is like many of ours! We feel your pain! And don't get our Peeps going about the inconsiderateness of people! But they are not going to change and we can be thankful that we are NOT related to them and we are NOT responsible for their actions! We send you virtual hugs and happy thoughts! (And dumber squirrels). Keep being AWESOME! Your #1 Fan Boy, Barvelous Marv and Mom.

  13. Those are excellent selfies! But you two always take the best ones. Your neighbor thought he was going to save some money by pulling that carport down himself but all it did was cost him more money because now he has to fix your fence. Not to mention the inconvenience for the petcretary to have to do work too. What a fiasco! We hope it all gets sorted out soon.

  14. It sounds like he's an overall good neighbor, but simply didn't think ahead on this. I hope it all gets repaired quickly.

    Your selfies are grand!

  16. That sounds very annoying. People just don't stop and think before going through with hare-brained ideas! We hope everything is back to normal soonest.

    Nice selfies!

  18. What a wild week you all had, but you still took some incredibly wonderful selfies. Dealing with neighbors can be a real pain according to our mom. Lucky for us, most of ours are really nice and not too stupid. Thanks for hopping with us! 19. Idiotic neighbors are a curse to pets and to humans.

  20. Java Bean: "Ayyy, wow, sounds like your neighbor was pretty determined that the 'carport' was coming down one way or another. Too bad it turned out not to be one way but was another way instead ..."
Lulu: "I'm trying to wrap my head around burning all that wood and plywood. That would definitely get Mr. Neighbor into all kinds of trouble around here. Of course, things are a lot drier here than there. Here, the 'carport' might even still be standing, although on the other hand it looks like one good earthquake would have knocked it over. But at least it probably wouldn't rot from the rain we don't get ..."

  23. Oh my Word! this is a horrific story, So sorry all of this is going on and I know the feelings that come with neighbors and dogs next door. Right now the neighbor with 3 pit bulls and no fence has a table laying up against our fence, and I put it down twice and he leans it back up on our fence.. I have a rake bracing the table. I am so happy none of you were harmed when the building fell... A few years ago, neighbors who are long gone now, burned a PLASTIC Christmas tree by standing it in his back yard 4 feet from our fence, we were inside, windows closed and we started coughing. Plastic trees make horrible choking smoke, I went out side and yelled over the fence, please put that out. It is illegal to burn anything in the city limits and the smoke is choking us inside our home. He did put it out, but is proof there is a lack of common sense out there that amazes me. hugs and kisses from Beau and his mama

  25. Yikes ! what an adventure ! Fortunately now it looks good again. Your digging story reminded me our cat Arthur who helped our neighbor ! He digged holes planted something and Arthur pulled everything out and "repaired" the whole to use it as his toilet ! The neighbor was not very happy, but he had to laugh too !
