That monstrous storm known as Fern is raging all over the country, and it has just started to hit our area too, though we are only getting snow, maybe 4-6 inches...through tonight and some more on Monday. So we will just endure it, cause we are glad that we are not going to have freezing rain, it's way too cold for rain. Friday night around 8 pm when petcretary got home from errands, it was -13F...when she got up in the middle of the night it was -16F, and when pawppy got up it was -19F. Talk about BRRRRR! Saturday's high was 8F...and with no wind it almost seemed warmish, BOL! We are just going out to do business and then we hurry back into the warm house.
Petcretary has shovelled snow every day this past week, except Friday!, each day it seemed there was more than what she's cleaned up the day before...does that mean that today, (Sunday) there'll be an even deeper load? Sheesh. Of course today, Sunday, is the day she's scheduled to work...hasn't been there in the last ten days, so of course Murphy's law is finding the perfect day to mess things up! At least she won't have to be back there till Feb 5...who knows what that day will bring weather wise!
The birds are devouring the feeder offerings very quickly, *she* has never seen bird food disappear this fast ever since she started feeding them so many years ago. So she got two more suet feeders so the various species of birds that love that stuff can all have a better chance at getting some. We commonly have three kinds of woodpeckers, chickadees, titmouse, wrens, nuthatches that like suet. Sometimes there are the huge pileated woodpeckers and rarely a redheaded one. Of course we have all kinds of sparrows, finches, cardinals, juncos, bluejays, and great flocks of mourning doves. We'll leave all the suet up until the starlings come back...they'll shove other birds out of the way and eat a whole suet cake in a matter of hours, same with mealworms. Even the cowbirds don't gobble the food as fast as the starlings.
We sure hope and pray that all our blogging friends stay safe and warm during this nasty and scary storm.

| Around 8pm, Jan 23rd (It looks like -8, but if you enlarge it you can see -13... |

| Around 4am, Jan 24th; Baby It's Cold Outside! |
 |
| Will someone play ball with me, I'm so bored when I can't be outside to patrol the yard and bark at everything... |
 |
| All this staying indoor stuff, is enough to drive a pup to drinking... |
We had to sadly say goodby to a dear blogging friend's cat, Sienna. She was part of the
Dash Kitten's Crew. What is doubly sad is that she lost Thomas not that long ago. Petcretary made this memento to honor her memory.
Please visit there and leave your message of comfort if you have not already don so.
That is way too cold, even for shovelling snow. Then to have to work on that too! A desk job sounds amazingly appealing when you look at those weather figures.
ReplyDeleteYes, keeping active, and not turning to drink, be it cream or nip rum, is a hard thing for sure. Maybe try some cat games like wand toys (or balls on strings?) to pass the time. Napping works for us here, and I dream of a new adventure and of course cream ;) MOL
Have a safe and lovely week
ERin
That is far too cold for me! I hope the worst of the snow misses you. Stay warm and safe!

ReplyDeleteYeech! Stay safe and warm you lot!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Brrrrrrrrrrr - those are SuperCold temps! Stay safe and warm!
ReplyDeleteGood gravy, that's cold guys, stay warm, stay safe, better still hibernate until Spring... Your photo's are epic today, looking supurr, furbulous and great!
ReplyDeleteYou two look good this morning but I bet it is difficult to stay inside when you'd rather be out running all over the yard getting exercise. They gave the storm a nice pleasant four letter name didn't they. I can think of some four letter words other than that to describe this storm, lol.
ReplyDeleteThat is furry cold indeed. Brrrr. You had best all snuggle up together, that's the best way to keep warm. And make sure you have several thermos flasks of hot water ready so Petcretary can make cocoa or coffee or whatever your humans like, even if the power goes down. Oh, how We hate winter.
ReplyDeleteStay warm, y'all!
ReplyDeleteMetro Detroit is supposed to get snow all day today; whether it goes north enough to dump a lot on us up here is anyone's guess as we are right at the borderline.
Good thing I've got audiobooks lined up, as well as lots of tea bags for continual sips all day.
Stay safe and warm. That's a beautiful memorial badge.
ReplyDeletedoodz….winter iz enuff ta cauz everee one ta take a bottle oh rum….N itz knot even pie ratz day 🐾‼️ bee safe up in mitten gen 💙🥶
ReplyDeleteWe've been cold here too, but not below zero yet. My mom puts booties on my feet or I can't stand to be outside long enough to do all my business. As an older pup I don't need much play time any more...just my breakfast and dinner and snacks.
ReplyDeleteBBRRbbrr, we think you Michiganders are big 'n' brave 'n' bold 'n' strong and you're used to all this stuff and you can take it! Well, yes/no maybe kinda/sorta (to quote June) ... nonetheless ... go easy with that snow shoveling stuff ... puppers gotta go out, briefly only please ... drive safe & slow if you must go out ... remember, those daffydills will soon be popping up again! Ha, ha ...
ReplyDeleteThat sure is cold! It has been really mild here in Scotland lately! Stay warm. Sorry to hear about Sienna.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comment. I had physio during week and he told me to keep my ankle moving. It is a must now if I want to regain strength and walk properly again. So been using it all week and doing the exercises and putting more weight on it. I think it'll be a long road to recovery though!
Thank you for the precious memento it means so much.
ReplyDeleteWe hope you get some nicer weather soon.
Very cute selfies. Our birds are going through a lot of food too. They upped out totals to a possibility of 20 inches. XO
ReplyDeleteDon't start drinking! MOL This winter really can call it quits anytime it wants to.
ReplyDeleteGracious, I'm sorry your Petcretary had to go to work on Sunday. I pray we all stay safe and sane in this mess of weather.
ReplyDeletehugs to you and to all who are in the way of fern... we hope there is no hard damage and loss...
ReplyDeleteEgad...it's way too cold for us! I do hope Miss Fern takes a hike soon and leaves. Bless your mum for taking care of the birds. I'm sure they very much appreciate it. Please stay warm and safe.
ReplyDeleteOMDs OMDs bless your hearts. Sending lots of warm virtual hugs and thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI am not a lover of hot hazy humidity but I'm thinking that will change this year.
Hugs Cecilia
Charlee: "Sometimes these storms fizzle out but it sure seems like this one delivered and then some. But why did they call it Fern?! That seems like such a weird name for a giant winter storm."
ReplyDeleteLulu: "Oh? What would you call it?"
Charlee: "I don't know, something really menacing and evil. Maybe 'Oona'?"
Oona: "SAY THAT ONE MORE TIME."
OMC we feel so cold with only -3℃ -10℃ max. so we can imagine how furreezing it must be where you live, sweet doggies...oh, yes, and how bored you get when you can't do your usual things, Benji and Dalton. Here comes a huge amount of Double Warm Pawkisses for all of you and we hope the ice and snow will melt down soon. Stay safe and stay warm dear furriends🙏🏼🐾😽💞
