Tree Wranglers

There has been a lot of progress made in our yard this past week. Our friend who comes for an hour or two most days has been working hard back there. However one morning he came and didn't let us know...and he forgot to close the gate after he came through with his truck. OOPS! We got all excited and barked fiercely at him...and by the time petcretary came out to shut that gate, she didn't see us...she called us and whistled for us...and we came a running from the field across the street...wait, what??? *She* about had a heart attack, but we came right back into our yard...of course we have not been to kindergarten, and didn't look both ways before we ran across the street...thankfully no vehicles were coming...(and we are in a 55mph zone on our country road). Phew!! She didn't scold us, because we DID come right back when we were called...but she did go and remind our friend to CLOSE that gate and not to forget to warn her ahead of time so she can keep us inside while he is here...he doesn't need any canine help back there...and what if something would fall on us?

Anyways, after he's done we get to inspect the job site...and the huge tree that snapped off with the beehive inside of it; well, it's been cut up and now no longer is hanging in the other trees. Benji started sniffing and jumping on the downed trunk...and was even biting and chewing on it! Dalton was trying to help him, but being a lot smaller he had to work a lot harder to get anywhere near what Benji was 'working' at.

The next day our friend cleaned up what had been such an intriguing thing...and now the 'fun' is gone...oh well, so then Benji went and dug a huge mole out of the yard...sigh...petcretary found said mole and gave it a 'funeral'...

Oct 9, 2025 Slow but steady progress.

Dalton: I wonder what he found up there? Petcretary:This is the tree that was taken down in that storm, it broke way up top, and when it fell, it split where the old honeycomb used to be. At least the bees no longer were in it. Woodpeckers found it a good place for bug hunting...alas, they will have to go elsewhere now...like to our bird feeders!

But I found something very interesting too.

Hey that was my hole!
Benji:I am checking out the other side of this trunk, maybe it will be more fun than where I just was.

Dalton: I'm coming to help you, Benji.

We need to make a plan...

Dalton: I wish I was bigger so I could help Benji better.

Benji: This may be Dalton's hole, but I find it more fun than the other part of this trunk.

I wonder who was living in this hole.

Yes indeed, this hole has good sniffs...

You mean our friend is going to take this away??

But...but, it was so much fun trying to get rid of the old honeycomb and sniffing that hole...
Yes, indeed, the day after these pictures were taken our friend did come and now most of this big split up tree trunk is gone along with most of the honeycomb remains...

Sadly, earlier this week, MessyMimi had to say goodbye to her Tripod, quite soon after she lost her Sissy. So we sent her this memento in her honor:

  4. Beautiful badge for sweet tripod Sissy cat. She will be missed. And you too had an adventure that you will not soon forget. Escaping the yard for a few moments, giving your mom a heart attack, and then helping to clean up the trees in the backyard.

  9. Wow that is a LOT of tree. I don’t think Toulouse would climb that one! I bet the smells were fun though.

  10. Good pups for comig right back to Petcretary. That is our Mom's biggest fear. Timber and Lightning got out ONCE when the lawn guys left the gate open. Lightning came home on his own and two very nice ladies brought Timber home. He went right over to them when they stopped their minivan to see if he was lost. It all just about gave Mom a heart attack too.

  14. That's a beautiful remembrance badge for dear Tripod. We're sorry to hear there's another new fur angel.

Looks like there was quite a lot of excitement in your garden. Glad no one was injured by falling trees or speeding cars. Bet those sniffs were simply irresistible.

  16. Java Bean: "Ayyy, those are some serious chew toy sticks you have got there! I wish a big tree would fall in our yard!"
Lulu: "You know our big tree is a silk floss tree with giant spikes, right?"
    Java Bean: "Ummm, never mind."
Lulu: "Good job taking care of that mole, boys! It's a never-ending battle against subterranean intruders, isn't it?"
