Here we go again! We didn't hear too much noise on July fourth, but yesterday night it was in abundance, and a lot closer than the ones at the airport on the 4th. Benji is a bit clingy but not hiding, and Dalton seems to not be outwardly bothered, though he gets his usual CBD each evening.
During the week, one night they went out for a last bedtime business and OMD, What a hullabaloo they were making...so Petcretary ran outside with a flashlight, and they had a big opossum cornered under the cheery tree...actually under the shrubbery around it. However before she could corral Benji, he had that opossum by the neck and gave it a few good terrier shakes and then dropped it...sigh...to late to be rescued and released out of our yard...so Petcretary shooed us insu]ide and got the opossum picked up and gave it a funeral, all by herself, no attendees to mourn it other than herself. Sheesh, she likes those creatures, but its very hard to undo the hardwired instincts of terriers when they sense a prey...sigh...
Thankfully no more critters came into our dangerous terriertory! So now its one groundhog, one squirrel, one opossum...and who knows how many moles, voles and mice. *she* did shoo a garden snake to safer hunting grounds...(Last year they had a young racoon, and 2 possums...)We need a sign..,beware of dogs, enter at own risk. (We think these critters come in by way of the tree canopy, searching for all the yummy mulberries and other edibles; good thing we do not have a veggie garden!)
Tree cleanup continues, little by little...have not seen any poison ivy, but Petcretsry is beginnong to think she might just be over reactive to virginia creeper which is ubiquitous all over our yard, and she tries hard to keep it from climbing on all the trees in the wooded area of the yard. However the neighbors' trees are covered with them and also invasive (Non-native)-bittersweet, we think all those vines contributed to the demise of all the trees during that bad storm session in mid May.
OK, here are some more images from our patriotic photo session, thay are goind to be our selfies and ussies for this week's Sunday Selfies Blog hop!

ReplyDeleteMy word, you were showing your true colours - in every sense!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Well this is one exciting post. It is kind of nice that the possum got buried. After all he was just doing what was natural eating mulberries of course. So he deserves a good rest and it sounds to me like we've got some very good dogs that know how to hunt. That could come in handy in case food ever gets short. We've had too much firework noise here and can't really say that we enjoy the 4th of july. Hope the yard clean up continues without too much incident
ReplyDeleteWe're sorry the possum had to go OTB. You look great in your patriotic outfits!
ReplyDeleteYou are great defenders of your terriertory! And you look so patriotic too!
ReplyDeleteYou two are so cute and so cooperative wearing all your outfits.

ReplyDeleteLovely patriotic selfies. Catching things is instinct for terriers as well as cats. It is just a fact of life. It was nice of Petcretary to give it a good burial.
ReplyDeleteHi hi hi! Ojo here! We don't like fireworks. Your patriotic pawtraits are FABULOUS, though! Happy Fourth of July!
ReplyDeleteYou two looks so spectacular. Well done.
ReplyDeleteVery cute patriotic selfies. I would hire you to get rid of the voles around our garden. :) XO
ReplyDeleteSuper cute selfies! We're lucky the boomers aren't too bad around here.
ReplyDeleteLuckily not too many boomers last night (there were enough on the 4th & 5th though). Sorry about the opossum; it's hard to change a dog's DNA. But we can say we absolutely love your patriotic selfies. Hopefully the tree cleanup with be finished soon enough but it sounds like the damage was so extensive, it'll make final resolution challenging. Sending positive thoughts.
ReplyDeleteyou look fantastic... and we hope our bastille day next week goes smooth too...
ReplyDeleteOH, poor little possom....but instincts will take over at times. So sweet to give it a funeral. Merci.
ReplyDeleteLulu: "You boys look very patriotic in your gear! Sorry about the possum, although I would probably have done the same thing if I caught one. Don't tell our frenemy Jill."
ReplyDeleteJava Bean: "Ayyy, we've done it to enough gophers, that's for sure! I know Dada doesn't like to have to pick up the gophers and I bet he would like even less having to pick up a possum ..."
