Snow!!

Yet again the snow makers are VERY busy! Our area is still in a winter storm warning, through later this morning...the forecast is for 8 to 12 inches of this white stuff the peeps call snow. Frankly, we don't care what they call it, cause we don't like it at all! We don't think our pawrents like it either, it is so disruptive to their normal doings. They even cancelled our church service. That hardly ever happens! As this is being posted there are at least 5 or 6 inches down already. If this is still fall, what will the winter be like??? At least we are warm and cozy inside, and we know the peeps have enough provisions for several days...and we saw petcretary make a chewy order...and there is a big as yet unopened bag of our food, yum!

Anyways before the snow got to making the roads too awful we got dressed up and took a ride in the car to our favorite petshop! Sheesh, they have so many things for us to go to, and now that *she* doesn't work on a schedule anymore, (Though she does work a few times each month at her own choosing...), she's able to do these weekend things with us. Anyways there was a SantasPaws there! Wow, was he early because he worried about the weather, on the day he's supposed to bring all those gifts???  We got to sit with him! We woofed our secret wants to him, too, BOL!

We saw lots of other pups there too, and even a couple of kitties! And there were lots of kittens and cats and big puppy up for adoption, from the ROAR group where Dalton came from. Petcretary was too busy keeping our curious schnooters away from those creatures that she couldn't get pictures of them...but there was a fun black kitten...he was very active and obviously was having fun seeing everyone looking at him, BOL! If we could have a kitten, he would be a good one, cause we think he would love us after he got used to us! Petcretary said no...oh well, we hope he found another wonderful forever family!

Today is the beginning of Advent, so that means it's the beginning of Christmas Season!

Here we are waiting in line to see SantaPaws! I, Benji, was miffed that *she* wouldn't let me get anywhere near that big akita. Her name was Raven.
That dog behind me is a Raven, the  akita...and I, Benji, growled at her to let her know I wasn't going to allow her to boss me around, BOL!
I didn't growl at anyone or anypup! I even let a couple of men pet me, and I begged for more! Maybe I know that everyone in this pet shop loves doggies.

Sorry we haven't been around as much as we'd like...we haven't forgotten you all, we are just BUSY! We try to at least read your posts, and we comment when we can find a bit more time...

Blogville had to say goodbye to Zoey, the beautiful kitty from Zee & Zoey's Cat Chronicles
So we made her family a memento to honor her.

Thankful Thursday And Happy Thanksgiving!

The day we have planned for and anticipated for weeks already...it's here!
So all the needed groceries and decor were gathered in...and then...well, the weather decided to have its say, too...with a temper tantrum!
We are in the midst of a winter storm warning, the winds are awful, roaring around like an angry lion, and whipping the snow around like piercing bits of ice. (this all started yesterday)
But...we are all safe, warm and dry in our house, which the weather wolf has not been able to blow down, LOL! So far our immediate area still has all power, though some areas to the west of us nearer to the lakeshore have lost it, We pray they have means to stay warm, and hope they get their power back on soon.
We cancelled our Church service, and told the unfur-bros not to come over; risking their lives to drive in bad conditions is silly...so Petcretary and Pawppy will have a quiet day together with us pups, and make a bit of a festive meal, in a simpler fashion than if the unfur-bros were here. We will try to get together next week sometime, weather permitting!
So far there is about 2 inches of snow on the ground...and ice pellets are part of that, too. the forecast calls for up to as much as 8 inches when it dies out...can't be soon enough, Petcretary has to go to her work tomorrow. (Why do the days she picks to work always end up being problematic one way or another??)
The bird feeders are filled, so all of those feathered friends of ours (sorry Tabbies) will have a good Thanksgiving, too.

We as a family are thankful to be able to have this celebration, it's good to recognize everything that we are thankful for. Our home, decent health, good food, and so many innumerable others, so often taken for granted!
Here are our two 'official' greetings for you, those of Blogville, our friends, for whom we are very thankful.

It's Almost Thanksgiving!

Yes indeed! Soon we will be all together as a family...that is if the weather cooperates, the long range forecast is calling for snow all the coming weekend...just what we DON'T need...sigh.

We had to be corralled in the house once again...we had a dude in here who was here to clean out the ductwork, that exhausts the air outside when the dryer is turned on....he cleaned out three big bags of lint buildup! Yikes! That is a fire hazard, good thing its all gone now. But we sure had to tell that man off, we sure didn't like the noises his machines made. BOL!

And of course we had things to say to the Fed Ex delivery man, and we were very loud when we played with Rose through the fence. Petcretary says she might need to add barkalot to our names, teehee!

Then Saturday, pawppy and petcretary left with a crockpot full of soup, (in pawppy's car), to go to a social gathering at their church...they weren't even at the highway yet, when the car drove over something very hard and loud, which pawppy said he didn't even see it. A few miles further towards the highway, the tire pressure light came on...Oh-Oh. 😡

At a nearby gas station, he got out to check the tires, and one was flat. Phooey. So we filled it up, and then limped back home...and of course it's Saturday evening, and no tire stores are open...anyways, we'll deal with that after the weekend...and we'll have another thing to be thankful for!

We went on a car ride earlier on Saturday, (in Petcretary's car), and went to our favorite petshop...they had a Thanksgiving event going on there, so petcretary wrote on the board what we were thankful for including the fact that we have a nice big yard to run in and dig holes in, BOL!!

Then it was picture time! AKA hat tax! Phooey...oh well, we got treats as *her* tax to us for getting some themed images. So we'll give you a wee taste of what those pictures were like...and then you'll have to wait till *The Day* for some others.

We are always happy...

When we know we are going to our favorite pet shop

Here are our selfies for this pre-Thanksgiving Sunday

This is an image from back in 2023...yup, we had to do the hat tax then too.

Of course we are always more than happy...

To get back in the car to go back home!

And it's a special day in Blogville today...
Yes, our pawrents are thankful that we have allowed them to be our pawrents!

Snow, Truck And Dogs

What a strange mixture we present to you today, BOL!
Last Sunday we woke up to this layer of white stuff...the peeps call it snow, we call it COLD!
And there was more after this came down...cause it snowed most of the day...it wasn't all that cold, just below freezing, and the snow was wet, but it did stick to everything, and some of the trees around here still had lots of leaves. We had around 2 inches by Monday morning.
In the late morning we went outside with petcretary...cause we had to check on an intruder truck...it was stuck in the mud in the back of our yard where our friend has been doing his lumberjack work...but he had to abandon his truck until he could get help to get it 'unstuck'.
Dalton assisted with checking out the truck...
All the coneflower seed heads had warm cozy caps on...
Doesn't this soft cushioning look like a comfortable place to relax?
I am watching what Benji is up to with Rose.
Benji is trying hard to get Rose to run along the fence with hi, but she isn't having any of it!
Intruder truck all stuck...look closely and you can see Dalton making sure no one is hiding under the truck.
Using a 'come-along' winch, to pull the truck out of the mud...
Making progress....
It's been freed out of the woods!
Yesterday Petcretary was a Guest chef at 'King Teddy's Kitchen', where they shared a yummy turkery recipe. You can see it HERE. So she got this badge as a memento of the occasion.
I received this badge from King Teddy at Castle Baconia in thanks for being his Kitchen Assistant Chef AND his Royal Guest on November 15, 2025!

Are we going to have snow like this again anytime soon?? We sure hope not, then we'll just stay inside in our comfy nest...

A lot of you know Layla Wilde, from Cat Wisdom101. One of the original 4 of her cats had to become an Angel, he was the last of those original four, Odin. He had a very aggressive cancer in his mouth...so very sad.

So we made this memento to honor his memory. You can visit their blog by clicking the caption under the memento.

Happy Birthday To Our Petcretary

Today us pups want to wish our Petcretary a very Happy Birthday! And many more, too!

She told us that she's more than antique, now...BOL!

The unfurbros are taking her and Pawppy out for dinner, this evening, so we hope that there might be a doggy bag for us when she returns. We didn't see any cake here, we suppose that will be at the restaurant...shucks, we wanted to have a taste of that too.

Anyways, Mum, er Petcretary, Congratulations on yet another tour around the sun! And we are thankful that YOU are our Mum...and also our Petcretary, and that you remain healthy even after  the big health scares you had, even before we met you...

Here is our card for you:

Happy Birthday! Love, sloppy kisses and woofs from Dalton & Benji
We are joining the Thankful Thursday Blog hop, cause yes, we are thankful that *she* gets to cdelebrate yet another milestone on her lifeline.

We are also thankful that the load of snow we had over the past weekend is GONE! And the temps are above freezing...even the sun showed up! And the truck that was stuck in our woodsy area was gotten out of there...more about that in another post...

Remembrance Day/Veteran's Day

This post is a 'rerun' of a post from 2022...

Today, November 11th, is Remembrance Day in Canada where petcretary came from, and its Veteran's Day in the USA.

Canadians remember and honor all veterans, the living and those who gave all for the freedoms Canada and the western world have. Also known. as Armistice day in some countries. Red Poppies are worn to help commemorate the day, and it refers back to the poem known as In Flanders Fields. That poem was written in Belgium, by a Canadian doctor, John McCrae

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
          In Flanders fields
John McCrae
1872–1918
Born in Guelph, Ontario, Canadian poet, soldier, and physician John McCrae earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Toronto, where he received the Gold Medal. As a physician, he worked at Toronto General Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital, McGill University, the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Infectious Diseases, Montreal General Hospital, and the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. He served in the Boer War in South Africa as an artillery subaltern in the Canadian Contingent from 1899 to 1900, was promoted to the rank of major in 1904, and reenlisted in the First Canadian Contingent soon after the start of World War I. McCrae became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and was the first Canadian to be appointed consulting surgeon to the British Army.

McCrae’s well-known poem “In Flanders Fields” memorializes the April 1915 battle in Belgium’s Ypres salient. For 17 days, McCrae tended those injured in the battle. The poem, written after the death of a close friend, was first published in Punch magazine and led to the adoption of the poppy as the Flower of Remembrance for the British and Commonwealth war dead. McCrae wrote several medical textbooks during his life, and his poetry was posthumously gathered into the collection In Flanders Fields and Other Poems (1919).

In 1915, McCrae was transferred to Boulogne No.3 General Hospital to oversee medicine. He worked there until his pneumonia-related death on January 28, 1918, at the age of 45. McCrae was buried with full military honors in Wimereux Cemetery near Boulogne, France. His family home in Guelph is preserved as a museum, and the main street in Wimereux is now named Rue McCrae.

Petcretary is Canadian, of Dutch descent, and several of her Uncles and even an Aunt served and aided their country either in Military service or in underground activities, all risking their lives to do so...
One of petcretary's first jobs was in a nursing facility just for veterans, which was in a separate section of a larger Canadian Veteran's hospital, not unlike the veterans hospitals here in the USA...she enjoyed that work, and there were not only Canadian vets in there, but also some from other countries who had immigrated to Canada, after whatever war they had served in. At that time there were still several from WWl! And a couple from the Boer War.
Many years ago, in 1975, Petcretary visited Groesbeek, which is a Canadian War Cemetery.
Allied forces entered the Netherlands on 12 September 1944. Airborne operations later that month established a bridgehead at Nijmegen and in the following months, coastal areas and ports were cleared and secured, but it was not until the German initiated offensive in the Ardennes had been repulsed that the drive into Germany could begin.
Most of those buried in GROESBEEK CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY were Canadians, many of whom died in the Battle of the Rhineland, when the 2nd and 3rd Canadian Infantry Divisions and the 4th Canadian Armoured Division took part in the drive southwards from Nijmegen to clear the territory between the Maas and the Rhine in February and March 1945. Others buried here died earlier or later in the southern part of the Netherlands and in the Rhineland.
The cemetery contains 2,610 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, and nine war graves of other nationalities.
Within the cemetery stands the GROESBEEK MEMORIAL, which commemorates by name more than 1,000 members of the Commonwealth land forces who died during the campaign in north-west Europe between the time of crossing the Seine at the end of August 1944 and the end of the war in Europe, and whose graves are not known.

Groesbeek is a short distance away from Nijmegen, where petcretary's Mother grew up, and its close to the German border. Seeing that place was a moving and emotional experience.

And for Americans it is Veteran's Day, in which we thank all veterans who have or are serving their country. There are several residents who are veterans where Petcretary works, and also several in her Church community. At her work, they really make a special day of it, and there is a wall of portraits so we all can honor them and thank them at any time.

If you know any veteran(s), be sure to thank them, because the freedoms we have today are ours because of the work they did, and do.

Take a moment; two minutes; at 11am; to be silent, to honor all veterans, who did and do so much for their fellow citizens.

A closeup of some of the above poppies...sorry about the focus...

We are joining with the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop...while this post is not particularly happy, we are happy that we have all the wonderful freedoms, thanks to all those who have or are serving their countries.
