Petcretary has not had time to make new St Patrick's Day pictures of us...not that we care, BOL! She's been busy in the yard a lot, pulling up bittercress which is all over our yard, like an invader. While it isn't likely that she will eradicate it, she should be able to get control of it. Some of them already have flower buds on them. If they go to seed, the battle is won for them, but not for petcretary. She has declared war on all the nonnative plants in our yard, esp the weeds. (And she has all kinds of seeds she collected last fall to try to establish some native plants for the pollinators and other creatures)
Oh well, there is always stuff to do to maintain the yard...like Friday when the winds were so hard we were under a wind warning, for gusts from 50 - 60 MPH. And it rained and it snowed too, so that the snow wasn't falling as much as it was blowing horizontally! It all melted quickly though, but the winds stuck around. There were all kinds of power outages in our state, from downed wires and fallen trees. Thankfully here, only branches were strewn all over the place and a trashbin went careening through the yard, LOL! So petcretary spent a couple hours adding all the newly downed bits and pieces into the various wood piles.
Then later when she was back inside, and it was dark, all of a sudden us dogs went nuts, barking our heads off. *She* investigated and OMD!!! Our shelterlogic shed (Basically a frame with a shaped tarp over it), must have gotten dislodged from all the heavy wind gusts, and it was standing way far back in the yard. If it wasn't such a pain, to get it back where it belongs, it would be funny, too bad we didn't see it happen! LOL! (And of course even though her phone was in her pocket, she totally forgot to take any pics of this occurrence.)
Also, now the temp has gone down to below freezing again and there is about an inch or two of snow all over everything, including all the stuff that was in that little shed. At least the real shed which is right beside where the shelterlogic shed was, is unscathed!
Update at time of posting...Son #1 and petcretary got the shelterlogic shed back in place and re-anchored...hopefully it will withstand the next round of high winds, forecast for later today into Monday.
As if that wasn't enough to keep the camera out of her hands, she caught a virus of some kind...she got tested, and it is not Covid, thankfully. Seems to be just a bad cold, with plenty of chills, sneezing and sniffling. Hopefully she won't have to miss her workshift tomorrow.
Here is a picture of some Bittercress; It is not toxic, and it is edible...but we certainly don't need a whole acre full of it!
At least it isn't too hard to pull out of the soil. And no, she nor us, nor anyone we know of has tasted this plant. Apparently it can serve as a sub for parsley. Update at time of posting: We took in a few of these plants, and tried some of the younger shoots. They actually taste good, and *she* added them to a tuna salad. They are akin to the taste of arugula and even can be a sub for parsley. Now for the flashbacks:Angels Pipo & Minko & MJF, ca2011.
This Ussie and the two selfies above were taken in March of 2019, Benji's first St Patrick's Day. How time flies!!![]() |

Happy belated St Pats Day. Not that we celebrate such things.
ReplyDeleteGosh, more high winds, snow and rain. Maybe you could spot spray those pesky invaders. We try to be as eco friendly as possible to preserve our paddocks, but sometimes, very rarely, we have to spray off invading weeds and docks to preserve the good and natural plants we love.
Hopefully the staff will recover from that nasty cold and all will be well for when the sun shines again....

ReplyDeleteWell, at least the Bittercress does have some use and purpose for its existence, which is more than can be said for most invasive species!
Sorry to hear Petcretary got a lurgy... I would mention that the latest iteration of C-19 has proven tricky to spot as about 35% of tests show negative for it... The thing is far from gone and we still need to keep ourselves guarded! Sending healing wishes via POTP...
And I love the St Pat's piccies! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
This wind has been an issue this year for so many. Your weather sounds like ours will be tonight and into tomorrow and Tuesday but without the snow, hopefully. You guys are looking very festive in your St Patrick's Day green! We hope you feel better soon, Petcretary.
ReplyDeleteI finally got to see your comment about your shed blowing over. That windheld here on Friday for over 12 hours and our power went out Friday afternoon early and stayed off until late and last night. Talk about a cold house. We saw plenty of trees falling down on all sides of our property but thankfully none in our yard. So enjoy seeing all these Saint Patrick's Day photos. Have a safe week ahead we've got our fingers crossed that we have one too.
ReplyDeleteWe had the wind here and few branches came down. Love the festive photos, Happy St. Patrick's Day!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day and the new week ahead.
Oh the 'war on weeds' is happening at BBHQ too, they keep springing up everywhere, as mew say, a weed invasion - we just need to keep Smooch away from the bazooka!!! MOL And what an epic photo parade today, mew guys are looking totally top fluff and utterly furbulous! Happy St Paddy's Day!
ReplyDeletePetcretary has certainly had a busy week! Keeping weeds down is a never ending job. We had snow Friday afternoon, we are an oceanic climate and rarely get it. It didn't last long though. Yesterday we had strong winds and lost power for a few hours but it was back before dark. Thank goodness for the log burner and LPG stove!
ReplyDeleteAll of the St. Patrick's Day selfies are lovely.
That sounds like typical Scottish weather...wet and wild winds! Those are lovely photos from back then :-D St Patrick's Day is huge over here in Scotland and everyone gets drunk haha! It's my partner's birthday so we celebrate that! :-D
ReplyDeleteSuch cute pics for St. Patrick's Day. Enjoy it, all of you!
ReplyDeleteThe weather sure has been crazy lately. I'm glad to hear you didn't have too much damage from that wind. Those are all such cute flash back selfies.
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been a regular roller coaster, and will continue.
ReplyDeleteHalf of Michigan will see record warm temps, while the other have get sleet and snow, while the wind will be a gale.
Ah...Spring!
Y'all look fabulous in green.
My goodness...your weather sounds a lot like ours. Rain, snow and LOTS of wind. Argh about the wind. It was supposed to get to 51F today but if it reaches freezing I'll be surprised. Doggone windchill is making it feel 8F. 🥶 Stay safe and cozy-you'll want to be able celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Tell your Petcretary to feel better.

Charlee: "We send lots of purrs for Petcretary to feel better soon!"

I enjoyed the flashback photos. I hope Petcretary is better soon. XO
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot going on! Love the festive flashbacks :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you know, a walking shed! I'm glad it's back in place and hope it doesn't try to leave again.
ReplyDeleteAs for the weeds, pull everything up, and if it grows back, it's a weed.
Your photos are such fun, thanks for sharing even if they are older photos.
